South of Burnet the caves had numerous uses but became a state park in 1932. Formed over millions of years by underground streams, the rooms have smooth, sculpted walls. Used by prehistoric animals & Native Americans, the caves were also a Confederate gunpowder factory, outlaw hideout, speakeasy & a church. The 85 minute tour is 1 1/4 miles. Picnic areas, hiking trails, gift shop & deli counter also on site. Admission. Favorite field trip for schools, civic groups. Unique setting for weddings, reunions & retreats!
