First-ever Wakepoint Open a wake sports showcase
Wake sports competitors are ready to ride the waves on Lake LBJ as they vie for cash prizes and gear. Wakepoint Open, presented by NXTLVL Marine, is the first-ever World Wake Association-sanctioned wakeboarding and wakesurfing competition to take place on Lake LBJ in Kingsland. The inaugural event Aug. 15-17 is open to athletes of all skill levels and promises a high-energy weekend of competition, live music, and lakeside fun.
Wakepoint Open takes place on the Llano River arm of Lake LBJ. Spectators have several viewing options to catch the action:
- tie up and watch from your own boat;
- take the water shuttle to the spectating area;
- or kick back and watch on the big screen at Wakepoint LBJ.
The three-day event hits the water on Friday at 10 a.m. with wakesurf competitions and qualifying events for pro wakeboarders. Saturday action starts at 8 a.m. and includes a full day of wakeboarding as well as the pro surf finals. The last day of competition starts at 8 a.m. Sunday and includes the wakeboarding finals.
In addition to the competition, the event features live music starting at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday at competition headquarters, Wakepoint LBJ, 14757 RR 1431 West in Kingsland. Division awards will be presented Saturday and Sunday after the events. Prior to the start of competition on Sunday, Wakepoint LBJ will host a worship service by Wakewell Ministries at 6 a.m.
