Mountain Biking on Burnet County Trails

The Highland Lakes of Burnet County boasts top-tier mountain biking. Bike trails perfectly blend the serenity of nature with the thrill of adventure at Spider Mountain Bike Park and Reveille Peak Ranch, two private Burnet attractions that charge a small fee for two-wheeled adventure in the wilderness. Both parks offer rugged, challenging terrain in their own distinct way.

Spider Mountain Bike Park is the only lift-served, year-round mountain bike park in Texas. It is nestled where the rugged hills meet the serene shore of Lake Buchanan in Burnet County. The Texas Eagle chairlift carries riders and equipment up 350 feet to where they can choose from among eight trails for their descent. The park plans to add more trails for a total of 40. Guests will find a nice hiking trail as well as viewing and picnic areas along with slopeside camping.

While it might seem intimidating to a novice, Spider Mountain has trails for all skill levels. Those new to the sport can sharpen their skills on runs such as Antidote and Itsy Bitsy, while more experienced bikers can take on the likes of Tarantula, Viper’s Den, or Stinger.

Trails are marked with level of intensity: green (easy), blue (intermediate), or black (advanced). Scenic chairlift rides are available for non-bikers and offer spectacular views of Lake Buchanan and the surrounding Texas Hill Country.

Spider Mountain offers slopeside areas designated for camping with lake access. Tent, car, and RV camping is available without hookups. No gear, no problem. The park also has mountain bike and gear rentals.

Spider Mountain Bike Park is located at 200 Greenwood Hills Trail just off RM 2341 west of Burnet. The facility is open noon-7 p.m. Fridays and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Visit the website for rates, trail maps, and more information.

Reveille Peak Ranch is a one-of-a-kind property with environmentally and geologically sensitive areas alongside those ideal for outdoor sports. Guests have access to an ultra-clear spring-fed lake, rugged hills, and a two-story open pavilion. Weekend camping is available with primitive sites as well as RV sites with hookups.

The trails at Reveille, which were designed by riders, are some of the best mountain biking trails in the state. The ranch has over 15 miles of single track and dozens of miles of single and double combined track. Experienced riders can push their limits on the elevated pump track, which was modeled after the Whistler pump track. The flow track is a winding mile-long downhill ride great for the novice. It also includes a few advanced feature options along the way to keep experienced riders challenged.

In addition to excellent mountain biking, Reveille Peak Ranch is ideal for many types of outdoor sports year-round such as trail running, hiking, scuba diving, and obstacle course running.

Reveille Peak Ranch is located at 105 CR 114 in Burnet. Trail hours are Fridays from 5 p.m. to dusk and Saturdays and Sundays from dawn to dusk. Visit the website for trail maps and more information.
